A teenager has been charged after a stabbing at a train station in western Sydney, leaving a young boy in critical condition.
According to police in New South Wales (NSW), emergency services responded to reports of the stabbing at Merrylands railway station, located 20 km west of Sydney, on Monday evening around 5:15 pm. Paramedics treated a 16-year-old boy at the scene before rushing him to the hospital. As of Wednesday morning, he remains in hospital, fighting for recovery.
Authorities say the teen was approached and attacked by two males he didn’t know. After the assault, the suspects left the scene quickly.
Police quickly caught a 17-year-old suspect. He went to a police station on Tuesday afternoon, where officers arrested him and charged him with multiple crimes, including intentionally wounding someone, carrying a knife in public, and attempting a serious offense. The teenager has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in a juvenile court soon. Police are still investigating what led to the stabbing.
This incident is part of a series of recent violent events in western Sydney. Just last month, on August 27, another stabbing at a bus station in Mount Druitt resulted in one man’s death and another being hospitalized. Police visited the scene after concerns about a man’s welfare and found two 19-year-olds suffering from stab wounds. One of them died at the scene, while the other was treated and is now stable in hospital.
Authorities continue to work hard to solve these violent incidents and keep the community safe. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as investigations remain ongoing.
