Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Visits Wayanad to Tackle Local Issues and Boost Support
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Wayanad, Kerala, on a 10-day mission to connect with her constituents and dive deep into their everyday challenges. She wants to figure out exactly how she can step in and help solve these problems, making it clear that listening and acting are her top priorities during this trip.
On Friday, Priyanka Gandhi kicked off her visit by heading to the Hume Centre for Ecology and Wildlife Biology in Kalpetta, Wayanad. Chatting with reporters afterward, she shared her simple goal: "I’m here for 10 days to really understand the issues people face. I also want to learn how I can support and fix them. That’s the whole point of this visit."
She didn’t stop there. Priyanka Gandhi took a close look at the stalled Poozhithode-Padinjarathara road project, a key infrastructure push that’s been stuck for too long. She met with locals to hear their frustrations firsthand and pushed hard for the work to get back on track. "I needed to see the problems and objections myself," she told the media. "We’ve done a survey, and I get it now."
When questions turned to environmental clearances, Priyanka Gandhi kept it balanced. "That’s for the experts to decide," she said. "But there’s a real urgency here—people are suffering without proper access. At the same time, we can’t ignore the ecology and environment. We have to strike a balance." She stressed how vital this road is for the community, especially since folks in the area struggle to reach hospitals and other essential services.
"It’s crucial for people to get medical care and other facilities they can’t access right now," she added. "We’ll keep working with everyone to find a solution and make it happen."
Before landing in Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi took a moment to honor a party veteran. She posted her condolences on X (formerly Twitter) for the death of senior Congress leader and former Kerala Agriculture Minister P.P. Thankachan. "Heartfelt condolences on the passing of Shri P.P. Thankachan, a dedicated leader who served Kerala’s people with commitment and passion," she wrote. "My thoughts and prayers are with his family in this tough time."
This Wayanad visit highlights Priyanka Gandhi’s focus on grassroots issues like infrastructure, healthcare access, and environmental balance in Kerala. As she spends the next few days engaging with locals, many hope it leads to real action for the region.
