9 Cambodian civilians killed in border fighting, Thai military imposes curfew in 4 districts

On December 10, Phnom Penh and Bangkok were both buzzing with updates from the fresh flare‑up along the Cambodia‑Thailand border. Cambodian Information Minister Neth Pheaktra announced on Facebook that by noon nine civilians had lost their lives and 46 more had been injured while hostilities continued. He added that roughly 127,000 people have fled the border area in search of safety. The Defence Ministry later confirmed that the Thai army fired two shells at a primary school in Banteay Meanchey province, and the same day Thailand’s military imposed a curfew—no‑go hours from 7 pm to 5 am—across four border districts in Sa Kaeo province to keep order and protect residents from threats. At the same time, Thailand’s Foreign Ministry urged its citizens to leave Cambodia unless they have a compelling reason to stay, noting that about 600‑1,200 Thai nationals are currently in the country. Both sides continue to blame each other for the latest outbreak that began on Sunday afternoon. A Cambodian defence spokesperson called out that over 100,000 villagers have gone into safe‑zone camps as the conflict moves into its fourth day, bringing the total displaced to 101,129, which includes infants, children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with disabilities. The spokesperson also said the Thai forces, using heavy weapons and even F‑16 fighter jets, have been striking Cambodian military positions and civilian areas from Sunday morning through Wednesday.
