Mohammed bin Rashid launches national campaign ‘The Emirates: The Startup Capital of the World’

Dubai’s leader, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who serves as Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, just kicked off an exciting new campaign called “The Emirates: The Startup Capital of the World.” This bold move aims to cement the UAE’s spot as a top global center for entrepreneurship and innovation, giving Emirati youth the tools they need to thrive in the country’s vibrant economy.
The campaign builds a full support system for young Emiratis, blending initiatives, platforms, and programs that spark ideas, speed up business growth, and help diversify the economy. The Ministry of Economy oversees it, teaming up with the UAE Government Media Office and the UAE Entrepreneurship Council. It pulls in more than 50 incubators and accelerators, plus partners from government, private companies, top institutions, and universities to nurture talent and unlock new economic wins.
Sheikh Mohammed shared his vision, saying the Cabinet launched the campaign today to unite over 50 public and private groups. “The goal is to train and guide 10,000 Emirati entrepreneurs, spark thousands of job opportunities, and boost awareness about making the most of our booming economy,” he noted. He called on all organizations to join in and support the effort, with more initiatives rolling out soon.
The UAE already boasts 50 business incubators nationwide, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) drive over 63% of the non-oil GDP. The country ranks first among 56 global economies for SME support, creating the perfect setup for businesses to launch and succeed.
At its core, the campaign wants to fire up young people to start their own companies, drive economic progress, and grab the huge chances in the UAE’s dynamic market. Key pieces include the new StartupEmirates.ae digital platform, launched with the New Economy Academy. It offers free mentorship, links youth to startups, shared workspaces, networking events, training, and international ties—aiming to draw in 10,000 entrepreneurs and generate 30,000 jobs by 2030. This positions the UAE as a launchpad for global startups.
Another highlight: the Entrepreneurship Programme, which trains 10,000 Emirati men and women in startup basics. It features a beginner track for core skills and an advanced one covering everything from setup to scaling and going international.
To spread the word, the Specialised Content Creator Programme will train 50 Emiratis to create content on economics and entrepreneurship, raising awareness nationwide.
In practical fields, the Project Management Experts Programme readies 500 Emiratis to manage residential construction projects from start to finish, helping homeowners build their dream homes with licensed expertise.
The UAE Tax Agent Programme goes further, certifying 500 Emirati tax agents over three years through diplomas in VAT and corporate tax, in partnership with the Federal Tax Authority and New Economy Academy.
The campaign also backs the launch of 250 full-time Emirati real estate companies, incubating them as proper licensed agencies rather than solo brokers.
For the next generation, the Young Entrepreneurs & Graduate Business Expo promotes early entrepreneurship with events across schools, in coordination with the Ministry of Education. It includes a special showcase for university graduates to pitch their ideas to investors, partners, and support groups, working with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Finally, to level the playing field, the initiative opens federal government procurement to startups under the Ministry of Finance. It prioritizes national entrepreneurs in tenders, simplifies processes, and offers training so UAE startups can innovate, compete, and fuel growth in the procurement system.
