Bihar Assembly elections: Folk singer Maithili Thakur leads in Alinagar with over 4,100 votes

In Patna today, the national betting on the Bihar Assembly elections is heating up. According to the Election Commission of India’s early‑voting trends, folk singer‑turned‑candidate Maithili Thakur is pulling ahead of RJD’s Binod Mishra in the Alinagar seat. The 25‑year‑old from Benipatti in Madhubani just made her first run for office and already has 4,113 votes on the boards as of 10:40 a.m.

Thakur’s win feels less like a surprise and more like a BJP masterstroke. The party saw her star power—especially her huge fan base in Mithilanchal—can swing the vote among young voters and cultural enthusiasts. Alinagar has become a hot‑pot seat for the BJP, and naming a popular folk singer in the poll mix looks to be paying off.

The same trend is visible across the state. Early counts now show the NDA holding 172 seats out of the 243 members in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. That break‑through lands them well over the 122‑seat majority threshold and places the alliance in a commanding position. BJP claims 73 seats, JD(U) 77, the Lok Janshakti Party 18, and the Hindu Janata Morcha’s 4.

Meanwhile, the opposition Mahagathbandhan is behind, clocking 54 seats—42 for the Rashtriya Janata Dal, 7 for the Congress and 5 for the CPI (ML)(L). Despite the numbers, front‑benchers from both camps are optimistic. NDA leaders cite Bihar’s faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promises and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s development track record. The Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD, insists that voters chose “change” and are hopeful Tejashwi Yadav will lead the next government.

Counting kicked off at 8 a.m. with postal ballots, while electronic voting machine (EVM) results began at 8:30 a.m. Security around the process was tight, reflecting the stakes of a hundred‑plus seat study.

For voters, the buzz is that this election could be a turning point for Bihar’s politics, with a face‑to‑face campaign from a fresh talent like Maithili Thakur and a broader push for youth engagement. As the day continues, watch the numbers grow and watch the story of who will shape Bihar’s future unfold.
