‘Hold tiffin meetings with people to understand their problems’: PM Modi says at BJP meeting

PM Modi Urges BJP Leaders to Connect with People at Key Workshop

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a two-day workshop for BJP MPs in New Delhi on Sunday, stressing the need for leaders to stay close to the ground and tackle people’s everyday issues head-on. Held at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament complex, the event brings together MPs from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to gear up for important upcoming elections.

Modi shared practical tips during the session. He suggested that BJP leaders organize a monthly "tiffin meeting" with locals in every assembly segment of their parliamentary constituency. "This way, you can dive deep into what troubles people and address them effectively," sources quoted him as saying. It’s all about building that direct connection to make governance more responsive.

He also advised MPs to chat with relevant ministers and officials before and after parliamentary committee meetings. This helps them gain solid insights into key topics. Modi didn’t hold back on reminding ministers to treat officials with respect, emphasizing teamwork in government.

Shifting gears to the ongoing Swachh Bharat cleanliness drive, the Prime Minister pointed to Singapore as a shining example. "Think creatively and innovate to make our cities cleaner," he urged the leaders, inspiring them to come up with fresh ideas for the campaign.

This workshop isn’t just routine—it’s timed perfectly before the high-stakes Vice-Presidential election on September 9. The session includes a mock poll to train MPs on the voting process, ensuring everyone is ready. The BJP-led NDA is ramping up preparations, with a special presentation planned to explain the entire election procedure to MPs.

The Vice-Presidential poll shapes up as an intriguing "South vs South" showdown. NDA’s candidate is C.P. Radhakrishnan from Tamil Nadu, a seasoned RSS associate, while the opposition has fielded B. Sudershan Reddy from Telangana, a former Supreme Court judge. The election happens through an electoral college of MPs from both houses of Parliament.

For this 2025 vote, the college has 782 members due to some vacant seats—233 from Rajya Sabha (including 12 nominated) and 543 from Lok Sabha, minus one vacancy. Voting uses a secret ballot with proportional representation and single transferable vote system, making it a fair and calculated process.

The opposition announced Sudershan Reddy as their joint candidate on August 19. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge called it an "ideological battle," highlighting the political stakes. The election became necessary after incumbent Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned mid-term for medical reasons.

Remember, the Vice President also chairs the Rajya Sabha, so this role packs a big political punch. As India eyes this crucial vote, the workshop underscores the NDA’s commitment to smooth sailing in the Vice-Presidential election process. Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding story!
