PM Modi refers to Russia being country partner at UP International Trade Show, says “we are further strengthening time-tested partnership”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025 in Greater Noida on Thursday, spotlighting India’s push for a strong defense sector and self-reliance under the Made in India banner.

Speaking at the event, Modi praised Uttar Pradesh’s key role in building a vibrant defense ecosystem across the country. He announced that production of AK 203 rifles will soon start at a new factory developed in partnership with Russia. “Our forces want homegrown solutions to cut reliance on imports,” Modi said. “We’re creating an environment where every part carries the Made in India label, and Uttar Pradesh leads the charge.”

Modi also highlighted Russia’s role as the partner country for this year’s trade show, calling it a boost to their longstanding ties. “I’m thrilled to see over 2,200 exhibitors showcasing their goods here,” he added, congratulating Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and organizers for pulling off the event.

The prime minister pointed to Uttar Pradesh’s manufacturing boom, from electronics and mobile phones to upcoming leaps in semiconductors. Work on a major semiconductor facility is set to begin just a few kilometers away, he noted, helping India achieve greater self-reliance.

In the defense space, a dedicated corridor in Uttar Pradesh is already producing advanced weapons like BrahMos missiles. Back in May, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh opened a 200-acre BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow. This Rs 300 crore center will handle booster assemblies, avionics, propellants, and ramjet engines, while fostering skills for local industries, engineers, and ITI students. It promises to curb job-related migration by building a full ecosystem of suppliers nearby. BrahMos itself is a joint India-Russia venture between DRDO and NPO Mashinostroyeniya, focusing on supersonic cruise missiles.

Modi urged investors to tap into Uttar Pradesh’s growing network of lakhs of MSMEs. “Make in UP—manufacture complete products here with our full support from the state and central governments,” he said.

Running from September 25 to 29 under the theme “Ultimate Sourcing Begins Here,” the trade show aims to drive innovation, integration, and global outreach. It targets international buyers, domestic B2B deals, and B2C shoppers, creating chances for exporters, small businesses, and everyday consumers.

The event puts Uttar Pradesh’s rich mix on display: traditional handicrafts, textiles, leather goods, agriculture, food processing, IT, electronics, and AYUSH products. Visitors can also dive into the state’s vibrant art, culture, and cuisine all in one spot.

With Russia as partner, the show opens doors for bilateral trade, tech sharing, and deeper cooperation. Expect around 2,400 exhibitors, 125,000 B2B visitors, and 450,000 B2C attendees over the five days.
