In New Delhi on 25 Nov, Secretary Piyush Goyal of the Ministry of Mines went over the progress of the ₹1,500‑crore incentive scheme designed to boost critical mineral recycling. The meeting drew not just ministry officers but also representatives from the Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research, Development & Design Centre (JNARDDC) in Nagpur, the autonomous institute that will manage the programme.
During the session, the Secretary examined different parts of the application process. JNARDDC reported that many companies have already registered on the portal set up for the scheme’s applications.
The incentive framework is a cornerstone of the National Critical Mineral Mission, which aims to build India’s capacity to recover critical minerals from secondary sources such as e‑waste, spent lithium‑ion batteries and other scrap. After the Union Cabinet gave its nod on 3 Sep, the scheme was launched with detailed guidelines in October. It will accept applications for six months, from 2 Oct 2025 to 1 Apr 2026.
As the project manager, JNARDDC ran a workshop and stakeholder consultation on 21 Nov, engaging about 30 potential beneficiaries—15 in person at JNARDDC in Nagpur and 15 online. Participants spanned start‑ups, established recyclers, tech providers and industrial partners eager to strengthen India’s critical mineral recycling ecosystem.
During the event, attendees were briefed on portal registration, filing applications, eligibility, required documents and how incentives would be disbursed. Operational questions were answered, and the PMA offered hands‑on help to navigate the online portal, walking participants through the full workflow to ensure accurate, timely submissions.
Secretary Goyal urged JNARDDC to keep holding such consultative sessions throughout the roll‑out to aid stakeholders and secure the scheme’s success. The centre also pledged ongoing support through a helpdesk and prompt clarification.
