BJP criticises Trinamool for ‘corruption’ after ED recovered huge cash in raids

In Kolkata on Sunday, the BJP blasted the Trinamool Congress after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized a large stash of cash and two luxury cars from the home of a Trinamool member. The raid, part of a money‑laundering probe, uncovered over Rs 1.01 crore in cash and the cars, allegedly bought with ill‑earned money from a prostitution and human‑trafficking racket.

Amit Malviya, the BJP’s IT‑cell chief and the party’s West Bengal observer, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the Trinamool figure caught by the ED was Ajmal Siddiqui, a state secretary of the party’s minority cell. He accused Siddiqui of running a sex cartel and amassing crores through corruption, saying the seized cash and cars were the spoils of a criminal empire built on women trafficking and illegal liquor.

“Can anyone believe Trinamool’s top brass was unaware? Of course not – they’re neck‑deep in the same filth,” Malviya wrote. “This party has turned into a syndicate of traffickers and crooks. The law must catch up with every one of them – now.”

The ED raided at least eight sites in Bidhannagar (North 24 Parganas), Kolkata, and Siliguri under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). It followed multiple FIRs and charge sheets filed by state police against accused figures such as Jagjit Singh, Ajmal Siddiqui, and Bishnu Mundra. Investigators said the group used false job promises to lure vulnerable women, then forced them into prostitution. The case also involves violations of the Arms Act and the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1986, all of which fall under the PMLA.

In another post, Malviya condemned a sexual assault on a four‑year‑old girl in Hooghly district’s Tarkeshwar. He slammed the local police for refusing to register an FIR and for sending the child to a hospital in Chandannagar, saying the police were protecting the “fake law and order” image of the state. “This is the grim reality of Mamata Banerjee’s regime,” he said. “Instead of upholding justice, the police appear to be shielding criminals. Mamata Banerjee, your leadership has failed West Bengal.”

The BJP’s accusations come amid growing scrutiny of the Trinamool Congress’ leadership and its alleged involvement in corruption and human‑trafficking schemes across West Bengal. The ED’s raid and the public outcry highlight serious concerns over law enforcement, governance, and the protection of vulnerable citizens in the state.
