Billy Crystal raced to Rob Reiner’s home, saw friends’ slain bodies after double murder: report
Hollywood legend Billy Crystal and his wife were among the first to arrive at Rob Reiner’s Los Angeles house after the filmmaker and his spouse, Michele, were found lifeless. According to reports, they stepped inside the Brentwood home and saw the bodies of the long‑time friends.
Reiner’s 28‑year‑old daughter Romy called Crystal—who has been friends with the crew due to his role in “When Harry Met Sally”—as soon as she notified police of the gruesome scene.
Crystal and Janice then hurried to the residence, where they witnessed the tragic sight of their friends’ murdered bodies. In the moments that followed, a neighbor remarked that Crystal “looked like he was about to cry” as he left the front yard.
The “Analyze This” star had a close personal and professional relationship with Reiner. In addition to starring in “When Harry Met Sally,” he shared the screen with the director on projects such as “This Is Spinal Tap” and “The Princess Bride.” Their friendship endured throughout the years.
The tragedy’s alleged perpetrator is Reiner’s son, Nick Reiner, who is accused of slitting his parents’ throats during an intense argument with his brother Nick in the same family—a claim prosecutors say stemmed from a fierce disagreement about Nick’s willingness to enter a rehab program.
Authorities detained him late Sunday night and charged him shortly afterward. The 32‑year‑old, who has a documented history of substance abuse and mental‑health challenges, has been placed on suicide watch and is being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
Reports from witnesses indicate that the Reiner family appeared to be in a heated dispute at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party the previous Saturday. Some speculated that the conflict centered around Nick’s refusal to pursue another rehabilitation stay.
