MP: Cabinet approves revised cost of 2 thermal power plants, helicopter services for tourists under PPP model

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav led a key cabinet meeting in Bhopal on Tuesday, greenlighting updated budgets for two major thermal power projects and rolling out new helicopter services to supercharge tourism in the state.

The cabinet nodded to a Rs 11,678.74 crore budget for the Satpura Thermal Power Project in Sarni, Betul district, and Rs 11,476.31 crore for the Amarkantak Thermal Power Plant in Chachai, Anuppur district. These moves aim to modernize the state’s power infrastructure and ensure reliable energy supply for locals and industries.

In a big win for travelers and tourists, the ministers also approved helicopter services across Madhya Pradesh under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Private operators will team up with the government to run affordable flights from key airports, helipads, and airstrips, making it easier to reach remote spots.

The services split into three sectors for better coverage. Sector 1 links hotspots like Indore, Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Mandu, Bhopal, and Jabalpur, including wildlife areas and historical sites. Sector 2 covers Bhopal, Pachmarhi, Sanchi, Gwalior, and more, focusing on central Madhya Pradesh gems. Sector 3 connects Jabalpur, Kanha National Park, Khajuraho, Bandhavgarh, and Indore, highlighting eastern tourist favorites like national parks and temples.

This initiative targets major cities, religious sites, wildlife reserves, and adventure spots to draw more visitors. It promises smoother travel for tourists, investors, and everyday folks, while sparking growth in trade, tourism, and jobs across Madhya Pradesh.

On the healthcare front, the cabinet created 354 new senior resident positions in non-clinical and para-clinical departments at 13 government medical colleges. These include facilities in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Rewa, Satna, Ratlam, Khandwa, and others. The move aligns with National Medical Commission (NMC) rules, helps postgraduate students gain hands-on experience right at their colleges, and beefs up teaching staff to improve medical education statewide.
