NIA chargesheets 3 in Amritsar Temple grenade attack case; foreign terror links under probe

NIA Charges Three in Amritsar Temple Grenade Attack Case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a big step in the Amritsar temple grenade attack probe. On Friday, the agency filed a charge sheet against three key suspects in the Special NIA Court in Mohali, Punjab. This attack rocked the state back in March, and now the NIA is cracking down on the terror network behind it.
The accused are Vishal Gill, also known as Chuchi; Bhagwant Singh, alias Manna Bhatti; and Diwan Singh, alias Sunny. They face charges for plotting and carrying out the grenade blast at Thakurdwara Sanatan Temple in Chheharta, Amritsar. The incident happened in the early hours of March 15, leaving everyone shocked.
NIA’s statement paints a clear picture of their roles. Vishal Gill rode a bike to the temple and threw the grenade. His partner, Gursidak Singh alias Sidki, got killed in a police encounter just two days later. Bhagwant Singh helped big time—he gave them a hideout, hid weapons, and even supplied bikes for scouting the area. Diwan Singh, on the other hand, sheltered the attackers and destroyed important evidence to cover their tracks.
The case doesn’t stop there. NIA arrested another suspect, Sharanjeet Kumar, from Gaya in Bihar on September 5. He’s still under the scanner. The agency is also hunting for Badalpreet Singh, who’s hiding abroad, and other unknown plotters.
Digging deeper, investigations show terror funds flowing from foreign handlers to local players via UPI and money transfer services like MTSS. NIA is chasing these money trails to uncover more.
This Amritsar grenade attack fits into a bigger plot, the NIA says. India-based and foreign operatives worked together to spark fear and communal tension in Punjab and beyond. Security forces see it as part of fresh efforts by overseas terror groups to stir trouble in the region.
NIA isn’t letting up—they’re working hard to nab more fugitives and expose international links in this Punjab terror module. As the probe heats up, Punjab’s fight against such threats stays front and center.
