Arunachal will be leading sporting hub of NE: CM Khandu

Itanagar, Nov 23 (LatestNewsX) – Chief Minister Pema Khandu was on hand Sunday to once again pledge the state’s dedication to turning Arunachal Pradesh into a flagship sporting centre for the Northeast, outlining plans to pour significant funds into modern sports venues, coaching academies and youth‑oriented schemes under both the Khelo India programme and its own state initiatives.
While flag‑offing the 42nd NTPC Sub‑Junior National Archery Championship 2025 at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Yupia, Papum Pare district, the CM reiterated that the government will soon build a dedicated archery arena. He said this would strengthen current training hubs and help nurture local talent.
Khandu expressed pride in the state’s contributions to Indian archery, recalling how archers such as Maselo Mihu and Sorang Yumi have brought home international medals that inspire the youth across Arunachal.
He added that archery is woven into the cultural fabric of the region and occupies a special place in its sporting history, being the first discipline to earn international medals and the first to secure a National Games gold for the state.
The CM urged young competitors to play with dignity, discipline and true sportsmanship, noting that events like this championship not only forge future champions but also cultivate learning, friendship and national solidarity.
He thanked NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) for its ongoing support of Indian sports and expressed gratitude to the Archery Association of India for entrusting Arunachal with this prestigious event. He also praised the Arunachal Archery Association, the organising committee, volunteers and all stakeholders for their diligence in ensuring the championship’s success.
Khandu welcomed all teams, officials and dignitaries from across the country for their participation. He described 2025 as a “landmark year for Indian archery,” pointing to India’s remarkable achievements on the global stage—its first gold at the World Archery Championship 2025, a historic medal tally at the 24th Asian Archery Championships, and a seven‑medal haul at the 2025 World Archery Para Championships.
The championship features 46 teams from 28 states, 8 union territories and 10 affiliated archery units. The Chief Minister concluded with best wishes for all competitors and formally opened the event. It will run for eight days, wrapping up on November 30.
