Bihar Police Cracks Down on Crime: Over 2.28 Lakh Arrests in First Seven Months of 2025
Patna, Sep 8: Bihar Police is on a mission to make the state safer, and they’re showing real results. From January to July 2025, they’ve arrested a whopping 2.28 lakh accused individuals. That’s a big jump in their fight against crime, including nabbing thousands of hardcore criminals and even Maoists.
Additional Director General (ADG) of Law and Order, Pankaj Kumar Darad, shared the exciting details. Among those caught are 8,823 hardcore criminals and 141 Naxalites—many with cash rewards on their heads. "About 40% of the total arrests are hardcore criminals, which is a huge win for Bihar Police," he said proudly.
When you compare this to past years, the numbers speak for themselves. In the first seven months of 2025, Bihar Police made 2,28,188 arrests. Last year (2024 full year), they arrested 3,35,000 people. In 2023, it was 3,51,424, and in 2022, 3,46,332. Officials are confident that 2025’s total will beat these records, thanks to the faster pace of arrests this year.
Bihar Police isn’t stopping at arrests—they’re also cracking down on illegal weapons. So far in 2025 (till July), they’ve seized 16,301 cartridges, way more than the 6,702 from all of 2024. Back in 2023, it was 30,201, and 28,200 in 2022. For illegal weapons, they’ve recovered 2,625 till July 2025, compared to 4,917 in 2024, 4,813 in 2023, and 4,288 in 2022. Plus, in these seven months, they’ve got back 38 regular or stolen weapons that were snatched from security forces.
ADG Darad highlighted another key effort: a special campaign against illegal arms manufacturing. Bihar Police busted 36 mini gun factories till July 2025. That’s up from 114 in 2024, 55 in 2023, and 32 in 2022. "We’re targeting these units head-on to stop the flow of illegal arms," he added.
To keep the momentum going, every police station in Bihar now has a list of hardcore and absconding criminals. A massive statewide drive is underway, with local police teaming up with the Special Task Force (STF) to catch long-time fugitives. "It’s not just about numbers—we’re focusing on hardcore criminals, breaking illegal arms networks, and taking down Maoist elements," ADG Darad explained. "Our plan mixes everyday district actions with high-tech special operations."
With this aggressive approach, Bihar Police is sending a strong message: crime doesn’t pay in the state. Stay tuned for more updates on their ongoing battle against criminals and Naxalites.
