AAP Punjab Exposes BJP’s Misleading Claims on State Disaster Response Fund
In a strong pushback against what it calls false propaganda, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab has shared official figures on the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to set the record straight. This comes amid ongoing political tensions over disaster relief funds in the state.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema slammed BJP leaders for trying to mislead people about how the government handles SDRF money. "The facts are out there for everyone to see," Cheema said in a statement. "Every rupee we get and spend from the SDRF is public knowledge. We stand for transparency, unlike some others."
To back this up, Cheema broke down the SDRF funds received from the central government and how Punjab has used them since April 1, 2022. Here’s the year-wise snapshot:
- 2022-23: Punjab received Rs 208 crore and spent Rs 61 crore.
- 2023-24: The state got Rs 645 crore and used Rs 420 crore.
- 2024-25: Rs 488 crore came in, with Rs 27 crore spent so far.
- 2025-26: Rs 241 crore received, and Rs 140 crore already allocated.
Overall, from April 1, 2022, to September 10, 2025, Punjab has received a total of Rs 1,582 crore under the SDRF from the Centre. Out of this, the state government has spent Rs 649 crore on relief and rehabilitation efforts across flood-hit areas. The rest is going towards current and future disaster operations to help affected families quickly.
Cheema didn’t hold back in criticizing the BJP. "These are the same people who never fought for Punjab’s rights," he said. "They’re spreading lies and hiding facts just to gain political advantage during a crisis. It’s not just irresponsible—it’s downright shameful."
He even challenged BJP leaders in Punjab to drop their campaign and explain why the central government is holding back thousands of crores in the state’s rightful dues under various schemes. "If they care about Punjab, they should focus on that instead of creating fake narratives about SDRF funds," Cheema added.
This latest exchange highlights the growing rift between AAP and BJP over disaster management and state funding in Punjab, especially as the region deals with frequent floods and relief needs.
