Police in Rajasthan have detained a man who claims to be a Pakistani national named Irfan after he fell from a moving train near Hastinapur, close to Keshavrayapatan station on the Kota-Sawai Madhopur railway line. The incident happened Thursday, and authorities are now probing a shocking claim: Irfan allegedly plotted to assassinate Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Irfan, who says he’s from Alamasa village in Sindh, Punjab in Pakistan, suffered head and limb injuries in the fall. Investigators believe he tumbled from the Amritsar-Mumbai Golden Temple Mail as it passed through the area. After the mishap, he walked about three kilometers to Keshavrayapatan station, where local police spotted him around 11 a.m.
Officers rushed him to a hospital for treatment before handing him over to the Intelligence Police in Kota that Friday afternoon for deeper questioning. A search turned up 1,920 euros and Rs 46,000 in Indian cash, plus several train tickets—including one from Sawai Madhopur to Mumbai and others linking districts in Uttar Pradesh to Sawai Madhopur. Strikingly, he carried no valid ID, passport, or visa.
District Superintendent of Police Rajendra Kumar Meena called the case “suspicious” and quickly alerted senior officials and intelligence agencies. Bundi Additional SP Uma Sharma, who grilled Irfan, noted he was riding in a general coach on the train. At first, he dodged questions, but later admitted he’s a Pakistani national. Still, his stories keep shifting, which has officials on high alert.
During interrogation, Irfan dropped a bombshell: He sneaked into India illegally through the Nepal border and got Rs 10 lakh from a Pakistani terrorist group to carry out the Yogi Adityanath assassination plot. But police sources say his inconsistent statements make it hard to buy the whole tale. The hefty stash of foreign and local currency only fuels suspicions of a bigger conspiracy.
Authorities aren’t taking chances. A Joint Intelligence Committee, pulling in multiple agencies, is now digging into whether Irfan is just an infiltrator or a full-blown Pakistani agent. They’ll register a formal case once they sort out the facts, and the probe into this potential terror threat continues.
