RJD MLA Prakash Veer resigns from his post

Bihar’s election fever is heating up. Ahead of the 2025 Assembly polls, two prominent leaders have stepped down from their MLA posts, raising new twists in the race.

Prakash Veer, the former RJD MLA from Rajauli, announced his resignation on Monday. He said he will not return to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party. Veer cited a personal dispute that hurt his self‑respect during a visit to Nawada for a RJD rally. “I have written my resignation,” he told reporters. “I will not go back to the RJD.”

In the same move, Vibha Devi Yadav, the RJD MLA from Nawada, also quit her seat. She praised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his work in Bihar and said workers will keep looking for development. “I have resigned as MLA,” she said. “Nitish Kumar has done good work here, and the people will keep asking whether development happens.”

Both resignations come as Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD’s leader of the opposition, re‑affirms his campaign promise of a job for every family. “From November 14, no Bihari will be unemployed,” he told the media. His pledge reaches out to a state navigating the 243‑seat Assembly race.

### Election dates

The Assembly election will split into two phases:

* Phase‑1: November 6
* Phase‑2: November 11

Vote counting follows on November 14.

### Political jockeying

Bihar’s major alliances are sharpening their strategies. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition Mahagathbandhan are negotiating seat shares in Delhi and Patna. The BJP central election committee is expected to finalise Bihar candidates this Sunday. RJD, Congress, CPI‑(ML), CPI, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP) will all compete for the 243 seats. The BJP also faces a new challenger, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party.

On election‑season announcements, the Election Commission set the November schedule and ordered a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists nationwide to ensure accurate rolls.

With these developments, Bihar voters face a crowded field and several new pledges as the state heads to the polls.
