RJD’s Madan Shah breaks down outside Lalu’s residence, claims tickets on sale for Rs 2.7 crore

In the weeks before Bihar’s state election, former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) hopeful Madan Shah burst into tears outside the home of party boss Lalu Prasad Yadav in Patna. The 58‑year‑old said he had been promised a ticket to fight from the Madhuban seat in Motihari, but was told the spot was sold for Rs 2.7 crore by RJD’s Sanjay Yadav.

“I worked for the party since 1990, I come from a family of ten doctors,” Shah told reporters. “Tejashwi Yadav didn’t give me a ticket. The price was Rs 2.7 crore, and when I refused to pay, the ticket went to someone else.” He ripped his clothing and lay on the road outside former Chief Minister Rabri Devi’s house, demanding a meeting with Lalu Prasad.

The Madhuban seat has now been allocated to Santosh Kushwaha. Shah’s emotional outburst highlights growing frustration inside the RJD as the Bihar assembly election approaches in two phases on Nov. 6 and Nov. 11, with results due on Nov. 14.

Another RJD worker, Usha Devi, also sang the song of disappointment. The 48‑year‑old, who has served on the Panchayat Committee since 2016 and has been with the party since 2005, claimed Lalu Prasad personally promised her a ticket for the Barachatti seat. Instead, the ticket went to Samta Devi, who lost twice from that constituency.

“I was told I’d get the ticket,” Usha said. “No one met me. I have to head back home and still support Tejashwi Yadav, who will become Chief Minister. I will carry the flag of the RJD for the rest of my life.” Her remarks underline the tension within the Mahagathbandhan (grand coalition) as the RJD and the Congress wrestle over seat‑sharing.

The RJD is looking to secure about 58 seats in Bihar, while the Congress demands over 60—ideally 65—citing its national profile. These internal disputes could shape the final alliance formula heading into the state election.

As campaigning heats up, the story of ticket corruption, internal party strife, and the fight for the upcoming Bihar assembly election continues to capture the attention of voters across the state.
