Fresh row erupts over abusive slogans against PM Modi’s mother at RJD rally

Fresh controversy is brewing in Bihar’s political scene ahead of the state assembly elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accuses Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav of allowing abusive slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi, at a recent rally. But the RJD fires back, claiming the BJP is spreading a fake video to damage their reputation.

The drama unfolded after the BJP posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) from Yadav’s public meeting on Saturday. In the clip, a voice in the background hurls insults at Modi and his mother while Yadav speaks from the stage. The BJP’s post blasts the RJD, saying, “Tejashwi again let workers abuse Modi ji’s mother at his rally. The louder the insults from RJD supporters, the more he egged them on. RJD-Congress’s only agenda seems to be targeting mothers and sisters. Their frustration is boiling over—Bihar won’t forget this insult to a mother, and its women will hit back.”

This isn’t the first time such claims have surfaced. Just days earlier, during the ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga—led by Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi—similar abusive remarks against Modi and his mother echoed from the stage. Prime Minister Modi responded directly, warning, “Those who insulted my mother in front of Bihar’s people—Modi might forgive once, but Bihar and India won’t stand for disrespecting a mother.”

The Congress, allied with the RJD, jumped to defend Yadav and slammed the BJP for poor governance. Congress MP Imran Masood told reporters, “Nityanand Rai, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, should resign first! Your government can’t even catch the abuser—this shows weak leadership. The whole country is paying for this failure. With agencies like the NIA at your disposal, why no strict action? It’s embarrassing.”

Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Surendra Rajput echoed the criticism, calling it “unfortunate” that the BJP is using Modi’s late mother’s name to rally votes in Bihar. “Mothers deserve respect, especially one who’s passed away,” Rajput said. “If a worker insults her, file an FIR—that’s fine. But the Prime Minister crying for votes in her name embarrasses her memory.” He also reminded voters of past BJP-led protests in Bihar, where their own supporters allegedly targeted local women’s honor.

Independent MP Pappu Yadav from Purnea condemned the abuses across the board, stressing that insulting anyone’s mother weakens society. “It’s dead wrong to use offensive language in any event,” he said. “A mother is sacred—you can’t attack her blood, caste, or family. Expel those in the viral videos from their parties, file FIRs, and don’t let them off. This isn’t just against mothers; it’s against our culture.” He pointed to past controversial remarks, like Modi’s “DNA” jabs or Union Minister Anurag Thakur’s casteist comments, as examples of toxic politics.

As Bihar gears up for polls, this feud over personal insults highlights the heated rivalry between the BJP and the RJD-Congress alliance. Both sides urge action, but trust the public to decide at the ballot box.
