At Work, the central government and the state of Madhya Prachand are teaming up to mark the International Day of Older Persons on October 6, 2025, at Manas Bhavan in Jabalpur. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) will head the festivities, which will run together with the Cantonment Board, the Ministry of Defence, and local officials.
Key voices at the event include Union Minister Virender Kumar, PWD Minister Rakesh Singh, Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Minister Narayan Singh Kushwah, MP Ashish Dubey (Lok Sabha), MP Sumitra Balmik (Rajya Sabha), and MLA Abhilash Pandey. Their presence reflects the high level of support for senior‑citizen rights across government layers.
The program will feature several highlights:
- Cultural performances by students of Swami Vivekanand Model High School in Katanga, showcasing respect for elders and India’s cultural heritage.
- A nukkad natak (street play) staged by the Ashmita Group (NSD) that spreads awareness about dignity and rights for senior citizens.
- A felicitation ceremony that honors elders for their contributions to society.
- An experience‑sharing session where senior citizens talk about their lives and lessons learned.
- Prize distribution to students who won competitions held earlier in October to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons.
Together, these activities aim to build an inclusive society for older people and strengthen efforts to protect their dignity and rights. The partnership between the central and state governments underscores a united commitment to social justice for the senior community in India.
