Meghana Raj recalls how her late husband Chiranjeevi Sarja had predicted she would win the State Award for ‘Iruvudellava Bittu’

Meghana Raj, the Kannada actress who won the Karnataka State Award for Best Actress for Iruvudellava Bittu, shared a touching story on Instagram about how her late husband, Chiranjeevi Sarja, predicted her win.
On her Instagram page, the actress reflected on the moment in 2017 when she signed three Kannada projects. One was a big‑budget multi‑starrer that many top stars were attached to. She was also considering Iruvudellava Bittu, a smaller film where she would play a mother‑to‑be. “I was worried,” she wrote, “about stepping into a mother role at my age and losing the spotlight.”
She said Chiranjeevi, whom she affectionately called “Chiru,” sat her down and asked her two questions. First, he wanted to know who the lead was in the high‑profile film. Meghana replied confidently. Then he asked, “Who’s the lead in Iruvudellava Bittu?” Her answer surprised him – she named her co‑actors. He smiled and said, “You’re the lead. Focus on doing great work, and the rest will follow.” The actor’s confidence boosted her morale on set.
The actress revealed that Iruvudellava Bittu was the only film, besides Aatagara, that Chiranjeevi ever visited during production. While shooting a key sequence, he stayed close to the monitor, then looked up and told her, “You will win the State Award for this film.” Meghana recalled that she called him first in January 2020 when she learned of her award. He exclaimed, “Congratulations, Kuttimma! I knew you would win big.”
When the award came, Meghana wore a traditional saree she called a “muhurtha” to honor her husband’s memory. “I had to take him with me to the ceremony,” she wrote, emphasizing her emotional connection.
She thanked her director, Kaanthakannalli, who crafted the film’s beautiful character, and praised her co‑actors, Shrimahadev and Tilak, for their support. She also thanked Somu, the co‑director who lightened the mood after heavy scenes, and music director Shridhar V Sambhram for elevating the film with his score. Meghana concluded by thanking her parents for their constant encouragement and her audience, who she calls “the dearest."
