China wins third straight ITTF Mixed Team World Cup title

Chengdu – December 7 (LatestNewsX) – China clinched its third straight International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Mixed Team World Cup crown by defeating Japan 8‑1 in Sunday’s final.

The match set the stage after China beat South Korea and Japan overthrew Germany in the earlier semifinals, according to Xinhua. In the best‑of‑15 showdown, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha sealed an 11‑4, 11‑4, 11‑6 win in mixed doubles against Sora Matsushima and Satsuki Odo. Wang Manyu then swept through Miwa Harimoto 11‑6, 11‑7, 11‑6 in women’s singles, pushing the Chinese tally to 6‑0.

Lin Shidong countered in the men’s singles, dropping the first set 6‑11 before finishing the match 11‑5, 11‑6 against Tomokazu Harimoto and locking in the team victory.

In the bronze medal contest, Germany edged South Korea 8‑7, marking a podium finish in the Mixed Team World Cup for the first time. The 2023‑held event’s final, held Sunday, wrapped up the third edition of the tournament. With the mixed‑team discipline added to the Olympic program for 2028, the World Cup now carries added significance for squads preparing for the Games.
