Unlock full potential of Make in India and Startup India: Piyush Goyal in Qatar

In Doha, India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal urged Indian companies to tap more fully into the country’s flagship programmes, Make in India and Startup India, to boost trade ties with Qatar.

On Tuesday, the minister posted a short video on X (formerly Twitter) in which he said he had a “fruit‑laden” meeting with an Indian business delegation in the Qatari capital. He urged the delegation to strike deeper partnerships and let the transformative initiatives of Make in India and Startup India guide new ventures—an effort he said would build shared prosperity for both sides.

At a community event for Indians in Doha, Goyal praised the diaspora’s role in strengthening bilateral relations. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self‑reliant India—part of the larger “Viksit Bharat 2047” plan—and encouraged the community to look for new collaboration opportunities.

A highlight of the visit was the launch of India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) at Lulu Hypermarket in Doha. Calling UPI a game changer for digital connectivity, Goyal said the move underlines India’s commitment to cross‑border commerce and the broader “Digital India” mission. UPI will now be available at Qatar National Bank point‑of‑sale terminals in key markets across the country, making it easier for Indian travelers to pay abroad and boosting trade and tourism between the two nations.
