In New Delhi, Microsoft’s chief Satya Nadella told reporters that India is on track to become the world’s biggest developer community by 2030, underscoring the country’s rapidly expanding talent pool and its growing leadership in next‑generation AI.
At the event, he explained how new tools and platforms are reshaping software creation, whether it’s building apps, designing complex multi‑agent AI systems, or deploying them at scale. “India is projected to have 57.5 million developers by 2030, making it the largest developer base globally,” Nadella said.
He saw this growth as a powerful chance for India to deliver “societal‑scale” AI solutions. “Developers in India are already using GitHub, Azure and Microsoft’s new AI platforms to work on advanced projects that were once restricted to large research labs,” he added.
Nadella unveiled Microsoft’s fresh “tool chain” for AI development, spotlighting AppBuilder, Copilot Studio and Foundry as key building blocks. He emphasized that the future of software is less about a single AI model and more about an ecosystem that lets developers pick, assess, and confidently deploy the right model for their needs.
Microsoft is heavily investing in this ecosystem so that developers—especially in India—can create next‑generation applications that integrate seamlessly with the data and systems businesses already use.
Following Nadella’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the company announced a $17.5 billion investment in India over the next four years, its largest spend ever in Asia. In a social‑media post on X, Nadella said, “Thank you, PM Narendra Modi, for an inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity.” He went on to add, “To support the country’s ambitions, Microsoft is committing $17.5 billion – our largest investment ever in Asia – to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India’s AI first future.”
