Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu shared some personal insights on health and hard work during a lively assembly session on public health Tuesday. Drawing a parallel to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Naidu revealed that he, like the PM, has never taken a single day off from his duties.
At 75 years old—just six months younger than Naidu—Modi keeps an impressive pace, Naidu noted. “He jets back from abroad and dives right into visiting four or five states the very next day,” Naidu said, praising Modi’s full physical fitness and nonstop energy. “I haven’t taken leave either,” he added, using the moment to stress how vital staying fit truly is for leaders and everyone else.
Naidu kept the conversation practical, tying good health to everyday choices like diet. “Food is your best medicine, and the kitchen acts like a pharmacy,” he explained. Follow that simple rule, he said, and people can boost their well-being dramatically. He even cracked a joke about overeating, telling the assembly that folks wolf down food meant to last 120 years in just 40. Pointing to Deputy Speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, Naidu quipped, “This goes for you too,” sparking laughter across the chamber. Eating too much, he warned, fuels most health problems, so adopting a healthy lifestyle is key.
Shifting to bigger concerns, Naidu highlighted a troubling stat for Andhra Pradesh: the state tops the nation in cesarean section (C-section) deliveries, with 56.62% of births happening this way. Alarmingly, 90% of these operations take place in private hospitals. “Doctors are pushing C-sections for profit instead of safe, natural deliveries,” Naidu charged. He urged Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav to meet with private hospital leaders right away. “Tell them the government won’t stand for this—push for natural births instead,” Naidu said. After all, he added, “An operation is still an operation; we shouldn’t mess with the natural body God gave us.”
Naidu nodded to the deputy speaker’s point that some families schedule C-sections to pick “auspicious” delivery dates, ignoring the body’s natural rhythm. It’s a habit that needs to change, he emphasized.
On another front, Naidu shot down claims from the opposition YSR Congress Party that his government is privatizing medical colleges. “That’s just false propaganda—don’t fall for it,” he told the assembly. Instead, the state is upgrading these facilities through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to improve care without handing over full control. Blasting the YSRCP for boycotting the session out of fear, Naidu said they’re stuck slinging mud through lies. “You can’t do politics forever with fake news,” he declared. “We’re committed to doing right by the people—no backing down.”
