Cricket fans in Uttarakhand are buzzing with excitement after the player draft for the 2025 Women’s Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL) wrapped up on Saturday morning in Dehradun. Four fierce teams—Haridwar Storm, Mussoorie Thunders, Pithoragarh Hurricanes, and Tehri Queens—built their squads with top talent, setting the stage for a thrilling tournament.
The draft focused on five key player categories: Icon Player, Category A, Category B, Category C, and Uncapped Players. Each team grabbed 16 players from senior, under-23, under-19, and uncapped groups, ensuring a mix of experience and fresh faces. Teams had just two minutes per pick across 16 rounds, keeping the action fast-paced.
Tehri Queens snagged the first choice after Friday’s pick order draw. They went all-in on Neelam Bhardwaj, the youngest woman to smash a List A double century this year—talk about a game-changer! Mussoorie Thunders followed with wicketkeeper-batter Kanchan Parihar from Haldwani, bringing solid skills behind the stumps. Haridwar Storm picked fellow keeper Sweta Verma, which handed Pithoragarh Hurricanes the star Mansi Joshi as their Icon Player.
Now, with rosters locked in, teams gear up for the Women’s UPL opener on September 23 at Dehradun’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. This league is a big boost for women’s cricket in Uttarakhand, promising nail-biting matches and plenty of talent on display.
