Blue Energy Motors raises $50 mn funding to accelerate green trucking in India

Mumbai-based Blue Energy Motors (BEM), India’s top maker of LNG and electric heavy-duty trucks, just hit a big milestone. The company has now raised a total of $50 million in funding, including a fresh $30 million round from investor Nikhil Kamath and Omnitex Industries. This boost comes with strong backing from Essar and FPT (part of the Iveco Group), who are acting as both strategic investors and tech partners to push green mobility forward.

With this new cash, BEM plans to ramp up its production. The company already has a manufacturing setup that can churn out 10,000 trucks a year. The funds will help unlock that full potential, speed up development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks and electric vehicles (EVs), and expand their eco-friendly footprint across India. It’s all about making sustainable freight transportation a reality in a country where the sector pumps out nearly 15% of total carbon emissions.

BEM is already leading the charge in decarbonizing India’s roads. As the nation’s biggest LNG truck manufacturer, they’ve sold around 1,000 vehicles to top Fortune 500 companies. These trucks have racked up over 60 million kilometers on the road, slashing more than 15,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions so far. That’s real progress toward cleaner air and greener logistics.

Anirudh Bhuwalka, Founder and Managing Director of Blue Energy Motors, shared his excitement: “This funding lets us speed up India’s move to clean, sustainable freight transport. By blending LNG and electric truck tech, we’re driving the shift to zero-emission hauling. Our focus on practical, scalable solutions puts us right in the heart of the green mobility revolution, creating lasting value for everyone involved.”

Nikhil Kamath, the entrepreneur behind Zerodha, chipped in too: “India’s logistics future depends on clean, scalable tech. The best opportunities come from solutions that deliver real change quietly and efficiently at scale. Blue Energy is nailing that.”

Anshuman Ruia, Director at Essar, added: “Essar is all in on Blue Energy Motors to fast-track India’s green mobility goals. Our ongoing investment shows our trust in their smart ways to cut emissions from heavy-duty transport. It fits perfectly with Essar’s push for sustainable solutions across industries.”

As India gears up for a cleaner, energy-smart tomorrow, Blue Energy Motors looks set to spearhead the freight sector’s big green shift. With LNG trucks and EV innovations gaining steam, companies like BEM are making sustainable transportation not just a goal, but a growing reality.
