Hyderabad residents in South Hyderabad now have a smoother ride thanks to a new Road Over Bridge at Falaknuma. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) just opened this key infrastructure project on the Secunderabad-Falaknuma rail line, easing one of the city’s busiest traffic spots.
Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar cut the ribbon on Friday, with GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi by his side. The event drew big names like Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, MLCs Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi and Mirza Rahmat Baig, plus MLAs Mohammed Mubeen and Mir Zulfiqar Ali. GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan and other officials, including Charminar Zonal Commissioner Srinivas Reddy and Chief Engineer Bhaskar Reddy, joined in, along with local corporators and community leaders.
This parallel Road Over Bridge cost Rs 52.03 crore to build and stretches 360 meters, including the railway section. It creates a four-lane setup that links the upgraded original bridge with the new one. GHMC added smart features too: a 36-meter box culvert for better drainage, a 12-meter-wide underpass for light vehicles, 60-meter and 100-meter road stretches on the Chandrayangutta and Falaknuma ends, and more than 210 meters of service roads.
The bridge promises to change traffic in Hyderabad’s Old City for the better. It lets drivers move freely from Barkas Junction near G-Max Convention to Falaknuma Bus Depot, without clashing with trains or other roads. Expect shorter travel times and less congestion on routes to the iconic Charminar. It also helps around Global School, the Kali Mata temple paths, and Falaknuma Railway Station—hotspots for daily jams.
Locals and daily commuters are already cheering the move. They say it ends those endless traffic snarls, saves precious time, and makes getting around one of Hyderabad’s toughest corridors a lot easier. This GHMC project marks a win for better urban mobility in Telangana’s capital.
