Himachal Pradesh: IPS officer Shyam Bhagat Negi appointed Additional Chief Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment

In Himachal Pradesh, the government has reshuffled its top team in the Social Justice & Empowerment department. Senior IPS officer Shyam Bhagat Negi, part of the 1990 batch, has been named the new Additional Chief Secretary for Social Justice & Empowerment. The change takes effect immediately, according to a notification from the Department of Personnel issued Wednesday.

The appointment comes on the recommendation of the Civil Services Board. The Governor signed the order, which also cancels the earlier posting that placed IPS officer Abhishek Trivedi, a 1996 batch officer, as Secretary of the same department on September 30. That earlier order is now void with immediate effect.

Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta has asked all relevant departments to follow the new instructions. Copies of the notification have been forwarded to the Establishment Officer, the Ministry of Personnel in New Delhi, and other senior officials in the state administration.

This shift comes as the state government looks to tighten oversight of welfare and empowerment programmes. With Negi’s appointment, the Social Justice & Empowerment office will strengthen its focus on social equity, policy implementation, and community support across Himachal Pradesh.
