In a move that surprised many, Hyderabad’s Police Commissioner, VC Sajjanar, rolled out of his office at midnight to personally check on a handful of known troublemakers. He hopped into a patrol car, quietly drove past Langar Houz police station, and pressed straight into the homes of alleged rowdy‑sheeters in MD Lines, Hashim Nagar and Defence Colonies. Without a siren or any fanfare, the commissioner knocked on the doors as the night stretched on, greeting the occupants and probing into their criminal pasts, daily livelihoods, and social habits. He was quick to warn them that fresh offenses would draw even stricter consequences and urged them to abandon any illicit pursuits.
From the break of midnight until about 3 a.m., Sajjanar toured the Southwest Zone, inspecting roads and strategic points around Langar House and Toli Chowki stations. He took a hard look at nighttime venues—hotels, night‑open shops and other businesses in Toli Chowki—offering stern warnings to traders who might keep their doors open against the rules. At a more tactical level, he asked patrol crews about their vigilance, the safety measures in place, and the speed with which they respond to incidents, meeting constables and officers on duty to review patrol routes and problem‑resolution data.
Later, he stopped by Toli Chowki Police Station to comb through the station’s general diary, night‑time entries, staffing rosters and assigned duties. “Beyond tightening night policing, these surprise visits let us see on the ground how the team reacts,” Sajjanar said. “It’s a people‑welfare policing tactic that bolsters accountability and improves service quality.” He went on to order that visible policing take precedence, underlining that the city’s crime‑monitoring is tight and that officers always remain alert, ready to jump into action whenever a problem arises.
