This online auction, running until October 2 at pmmementos.gov.in, lets you bid on these one-of-a-kind treasures while supporting a great cause. Every bid helps fund the Namami Gange Project, which focuses on cleaning and conserving the sacred Ganges River.
From Nagaland, check out the striking ‘Mithun’—a detailed wooden sculpture of a bull that shines with polish and represents wealth and status in Naga culture. There’s also a colorful handloom Naga shawl, woven with traditional patterns that tell stories of the community’s heritage.
Meghalaya contributes a fascinating bamboo and cane ship model, complete with layered decks and intricate engravings. Artisans here turn simple materials into imaginative works that symbolize aspiration and skilled hands-on creativity.
Assam shines with several standout pieces: a luxurious Muga silk Angavastra in golden hues, showcasing the state’s renowned silk-weaving tradition; a Garuda wall mask from Majuli, the world’s largest river island and a hub of Assamese culture; and a traditional Japi hat made from bamboo and palm leaves, adorned with bright designs. Locals use the Japi as a rain shield and a mark of respect during ceremonies.
Sikkim offers a peaceful brass sculpture of Lord Buddha in meditation, reflecting the state’s deep spiritual roots.
Finally, Arunachal Pradesh features a Wancho wooden craft depicting a traditional tribal couple, beautifully carved from a single piece of wood and standing as a tribute to the community’s customs.
