Young Australian cricketer Campbell Kellaway is excited to visit India again and learn from his previous experiences. He will be part of the Australia ‘A’ team playing two four-day matches in Lucknow, aiming to boost his skills and prepare for upcoming international challenges.
Kellaway is expected to open the batting with Sam Konstas, the current Test opener. The Australian cricket selectors, led by George Bailey, are focusing on developing young players like Kellaway for future tours in India, including the important Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in 2027.
Last year, Kellaway trained at the MRF Academy in Chennai, India, for two weeks with 12 other Australian players. He also participated in a similar camp this year, gaining valuable experience of Indian pitches and conditions. “I want to start the season strong for Victoria and enjoy the Aussie ‘A’ games in Lucknow,” he said. “Getting to play in India is pretty special. The conditions are very different from Australia, and I’m eager to learn and adapt.”
Lucknow’s BRSABV Ekana Stadium is known for turning pitches and spin bowling. The only Test match played there saw most wickets fall to spinners, making spin bowling a tough challenge for batters like Kellaway. “Since I’ve been to the MRF Academy before, I knew what to expect from the wickets and how to adjust my game,” Kellaway explained. “This training helped me prepare for the upcoming matches in Lucknow. I now have a plan on how to handle spinning tracks, and I just need to put it into practice.”
Kellaway’s focus is on improving his game in challenging conditions as he looks toward the future of Australian cricket and opportunities in India.
