Govt taking consistent steps to boost Ease of Living, Ease of Doing Business: PM Modi in Aizawl

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted how his government is working hard to make life simpler for everyday Indians through better Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business. Speaking from Aizawl in Mizoram, he kicked off major projects, including the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway line, new train services linking Aizawl to Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati, plus other developments worth over Rs 9,000 crore.
PM Modi pointed out recent next-generation GST reforms that slash taxes on many everyday items. “This means families can save more on products they use daily,” he said, adding that these changes make life easier and more affordable.
He shared how things have improved since 2014. Back then, basic essentials like toothpaste, soap, and cooking oil faced a whopping 27% tax. Now, under the GST system, these items attract just 5% GST, putting more money back in people’s pockets. Modi also slammed the opposition era, when medicines, COVID test kits, and insurance policies carried heavy taxes, driving up healthcare costs and making insurance out of reach for ordinary families.
Today, all that has changed—medicines for serious illnesses like cancer are getting cheaper, and healthcare feels more accessible. After September 22, even cement and construction materials will cost less, boosting home-building and infrastructure projects across India.
The Prime Minister noted that scooter and car makers have already cut prices thanks to these reforms. “Get ready for a super vibrant festive season this year,” he said with optimism, as lower costs could light up Diwali shopping nationwide.
Travel lovers will cheer too—GST on most hotels is now down to 5%, making stays, trips, and dining out more budget-friendly. “This will get more people exploring India’s beauty, especially in tourist spots like the North East,” Modi added, giving a nod to regions like Mizoram.
On the economic front, PM Modi celebrated India’s strong performance, with 7.8% growth in the first quarter of 2025-26. “We’re the world’s fastest-growing major economy, thanks to booming Make in India initiatives and rising exports,” he said. This growth isn’t just numbers—it’s fueling jobs and opportunities.
He also touched on national pride, referencing Operation Sindoor, where Indian soldiers showed zero tolerance for terror sponsors. “The whole country swelled with pride for our armed forces,” Modi said. He praised the role of Made in India weapons in the operation, stressing that a robust economy and manufacturing push are key to India’s security.
Wrapping up, PM Modi reaffirmed his government’s focus on every citizen, family, and corner of the country. “A developed India will rise through empowering its people, and Mizoram’s folks will be right at the heart of it,” he promised. He congratulated Aizawl on joining India’s railway network and apologized for missing the in-person visit due to bad weather, assuring everyone they’d meet soon.
The event saw Mizoram Governor General VK Singh (Retd), Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, among other leaders. These steps show Modi’s push for GST reforms, economic growth, and regional development is gaining steam, benefiting millions from Mizoram to the rest of India.
