India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed fresh charges against a father and son accused of working as Naxal operatives in the brutal 2023 murder of BJP leader Ratan Dubey in Chhattisgarh.
Shivanand Nag and his father, Narayan Prasad Nag, now face charges under key sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The NIA submitted this second supplementary chargesheet to the special court in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh.
Investigators say the pair played a direct role in the criminal plot that led to Dubey’s killing. Both men worked actively for the banned CPI (Maoist) group and had a long-standing political, business, and personal feud with the BJP leader.
The attack happened in November 2023 during a busy election campaign in Koushalnar village, part of the Jharaghati area in Narayanpur district. Assailants hacked Dubey to death with hand axes right in the crowded weekly market. The NIA believes Maoist militants targeted him to sow fear among locals and derail the elections.
As the probe deepened, the NIA connected the murder to the Bayanar and Barsoor area committees of the East Bastar Division, all under CPI (Maoist) control. They also identified overground workers who supported the operation.
The NIA took over the case in February 2024. Earlier, the agency charged Dhan Singh Korram in June 2024. Then, in December 2024, authorities arrested Sainuram Korram and Laluram Korram, filing charges against them too.
