In a major win for Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Special Investigation Agency (SIA) has nabbed a top narcotic smuggler who dodged arrest for over three years. The suspect, Zafraan Khan, son of Shafi Ullah Khan from Mohra Dawran in Uri, Baramulla district, got caught by a special SIA team in Kathua district on Tuesday.
This arrest hits hard at a dangerous narco-terror module run by terror handlers from Pakistan. The group smuggled drugs like heroin and poppy straw across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector. They then moved and sold these narcotic substances in the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region, using the money to fuel terrorism in J&K.
The case ties back to FIR No. 13/2022 under sections of the NDPS Act and UA(P) Act. Back in 2022, police seized 1 kg of heroin, 7 kg of poppy straw, and 4 kg of poppy seeds from the module. So far, SIA has filed a charge sheet against five members of this narco-terror network.
SIA believes Zafraan’s capture will uncover more links, helping them break down these drug smuggling rings in the Kashmir Valley. “This will let us trace forward and backward connections to smash the entire setup,” the agency said in a statement.
Over the past few months, SIA has ramped up its fight against narco-terror networks. Just last week, they arrested another fugitive terror handler, Abdul Rashid Bhat, who had been on the run for over two years in Pulwama. These quick successes show SIA’s non-stop push to wipe out the terror ecosystem in the region.
