Rajasthan’s Karauli Police kicked off a major crackdown on illegal mining this week, grabbing tons of gravel, explosives, and heavy equipment in a series of raids. Officials shared details on Wednesday, highlighting the push to stop illegal activities along key riverbeds.
The operation targeted spots across multiple police stations, led by Superintendent of Police Lokesh Sonwal and overseen by Additional SP Gumna Ram, along with Circle Officers Kanhaiyalal, Anuj Shubham, and Meena Meena. On Tuesday, a joint team from Karauli Police, the district administration, and the Mines Department hit Kanthda Hadoti village in the Sapotra area. They uncovered nearly 2,790 tonnes of illegally dug gravel—about 700 trolleys’ worth—from the Banas River. The stash sat right along the riverbank at the Karauli-Sawai Madhopur border in Khandar.
In a related bust at Langra police station, officers seized explosives used in the illegal mining operations. That haul included 47 Rajjail-90 high-explosive rods (Class-2), 925 feet of detonator wire, a Massey tractor, a compressor machine, and tools like drills, hammers, and chisels. Nearby, in a raid close to Kanketiyapura village, the team grabbed two hydra machines and another compressor. As soon as police showed up, the workers ditched the gear and bolted into the surrounding forest.
The crackdown didn’t stop there—officers made two arrests tied to illegal stone mining. At Kotwali police station, they nabbed Sonu Kashyap, son of Vishnu from Masalpur, along with a tractor-trolley full of stones near a local GSS. In another spot, Mamachari police caught Bani Singh Gurjar, 39, son of Jagannath from Mamachari, hauling illegal Cheja stones on a tractor-trolley by the Maholi liquor shop.
Police have filed cases under relevant laws, and investigations continue. Officials promise to keep up the pressure on the illegal mining mafia in Rajasthan with tighter surveillance and team efforts to shut down these operations for good.
