Delhi BMW accident: Gaganpreet Kaur’s judicial custody extended till Oct 11, decision on bail plea today (Ld)

A Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of Gaganpreet Kaur, the driver accused in the deadly BMW accident that killed a senior Ministry of Finance official, until October 11. The court plans to rule on her bail plea later today.

Judicial Magistrate Ankit Garg listened to initial arguments on Kaur’s bail request last Thursday and set the decision for Saturday afternoon. With her previous custody period ending, the 38-year-old appeared in court this morning, leading to the 14-day extension.

Kaur faces serious charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and reckless driving, in the high-profile Delhi BMW accident case. The crash happened earlier this month in the busy Dhaula Kuan area, where her BMW slammed into a motorcycle. The impact left Navjot Singh, a top Ministry of Finance officer, with fatal injuries—he later died—and his wife with severe wounds.

Prosecutors pushed hard during Thursday’s hearing. They claimed the BMW was speeding at the time of the collision and questioned how the aftermath unfolded. Instead of rushing the injured couple to a nearby hospital—several options sat just minutes away—Kaur’s group drove them to Nulife Hospital in North Delhi’s GTB Nagar. That facility reportedly belongs to a relative of hers, sparking accusations that this move might have aimed to mess with medical evidence or dodge a closer look.

The investigating officer shared CCTV footage from the crash day, which the magistrate watched closely in court. This video could prove key in piecing together what led to the tragic Dhaula Kuan crash.

The case has drawn huge public scrutiny, especially given the victim’s prominent role and worries over whether justice will come swiftly and fairly in this reckless driving tragedy.
