Three-member ECI team in Bengal today to review ongoing SIR progress

Kolkata has welcomed a three‑member team from the Election Commission of India (ECI) to oversee the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state.
Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, Deputy Secretary Abhinav Agarwal, and Principal Secretary S.B. Joshi will stay in West Bengal until November 8 to monitor progress in Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar.

The delegation will work alongside West Bengal’s chief electoral officer, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, and a technical crew. Their goal is to ensure that the revision process moves smoothly and that voters’ concerns are addressed promptly.

To help voters stay connected, the CEO’s office launched the “Book a Call with BLO” app. The app lets citizens schedule a call with a Booth‑Level Officer (BLO). If a BLO misses a call or takes too long to answer, the app notifies the district election officer. That officer will then visit the BLO’s office to remind them to follow up with the voter.

SIR starts with BLOs knocking on every door to distribute enumeration forms and gather voter details. Once this data is collected, the ECI will publish a draft voters’ list. In the second phase, anyone—whether a political party or an individual—can file complaints about the draft list. The ECI will review these complaints. Finally, the electoral officers will resolve the issues and release the final voters’ list.

The entire review process is scheduled to finish by March 2026. West Bengal last carried out a SIR in 2002.
