Major protests against Pak government in PoJK, opposition alleges forces fired on protestors

Protests are erupting across Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) as angry residents demand basic rights from the government led by Anwar Ul Haq Kakar and Pakistan’s top leaders. Local reports say at least one person died in the clashes, with several others hurt.

Crowds filled the streets in places like Muzaffarabad, Sara Mirpur, and Plandri, chanting against what they call the denial of their fundamental needs. The massive turnouts show frustration boiling over in districts far and wide.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party’s PoJK branch, jumped in on social media, blasting the Anwar government for mishandling the crisis and cracking down hard. “Sara Mirpur has taken to the streets against her rights and this incompetent Anwar government,” PTI posted on X, formerly Twitter.

They also pointed to videos of violence, claiming thugs from the rival Muslim Conference fired on peaceful crowds with state backing. “Four people are seriously injured from this direct gunfire,” PTI said, tying it to broader unrest.

In Plandri, locals rallied for essentials like electricity and jobs, with PTI calling it a stand against the “incompetent Anwar government.” Things heated up in Dadyal too, where authorities blocked the Plak Bridge, stranding patients and travelers headed abroad. PTI slammed the move, noting it breaks promises from earlier lockdowns to keep routes open for medical needs and international trips. “This administration is making life hell for patients,” they added.

The protests spread to Bhimber—Anwar Haq’s own backyard—where demonstrators looted and shouted fierce slogans against rights violations and government failures. In Dadyal, thousands joined a sit-in, pushing for change.

Over in Kotli District, crowds defied lockdown orders and gathered anyway. One protester told reporters, “We’ve made it to Kotli in PoJK despite the restrictions. Rallies are pouring in here because local lawmakers tried to plot against our Action Committee’s demands.” The Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (JKAAC) leads these efforts, calling for an end to treating PoJK like a colony. They want real say in decisions, the right to protest, and control over their future.

To quiet the noise, authorities cut all telecom lines in PoJK—no cell service, landlines, or internet. Families can’t reach loved ones, sparking big worries about the human cost of this blackout.

These PoJK protests echo recent chaos in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where PTI leaders accused Pakistan Air Force jets of bombing the Tirah Valley. They say it killed several, with rescuers pulling at least 20 bodies from the debris.
