A drone strike by the Pakistani military in Balochistan’s Zehri tehsil has killed three civilians and wounded five others, sparking outrage over what locals call a deadly mistake targeting innocents.
The attack hit the Tarasani area of Khuzdar district late Wednesday night. People had gathered outside a home when the strike unfolded. Among the dead were Bibi Amna, 40, wife of Sanaullah; Lal Bibi, 41, wife of Ali Akbar; and Muhammad Hassan, 30, son of Muhammad Yaqoob. The Balochistan Post reported the details, highlighting how the victims were just ordinary residents.
Rescuers rushed the injured toward nearby hospitals, but Frontier Corps troops stopped their convoy near Anjeera Cross. Security forces then detained some of the wounded, including Ali Akbar, and took him to an unknown spot. Sanaullah and his four-year-old son made it to a hospital in Surab, while two more victims headed to Quetta for urgent care.
Pakistan’s military admitted to the drone strike in Balochistan but insisted it aimed at fighters from an armed Baloch group. Troops said they seized weapons and explosives during the raid. Yet, the army shared no names or extra proof, leaving room for doubt.
Local sources and human rights advocates quickly pushed back, arguing the strike killed unarmed civilians in a botched Pakistani military operation. This has only deepened tensions in Balochistan, where such incidents fuel resentment against ongoing army actions.
The Baloch Students Organisation-Azad slammed the drone strike as a war crime in “occupied Balochistan.” A group spokesperson called it a desperate move by the Pakistani forces to hide their setbacks, showing their growing defeat in the face of Baloch resistance. They vowed that these attacks won’t break the people’s fight for freedom—in fact, they said, the violence is strengthening the movement across the province.
Civilian deaths in Balochistan military operations like this one keep stirring widespread anger, as communities demand answers and justice. ()
