Police in Vadodara, Gujarat, detained at least 50 people after a chaotic stone-pelting incident rocked the Zunigarhi area late Friday night. Authorities shared the update on Saturday, highlighting tensions sparked by a social media post.
The trouble started when a crowd gathered at a local police station to file a complaint over the post. As the group dispersed, some individuals turned violent. They targeted a Navratri pandal, smashed nearby parked vehicles, and hurled stones across the neighborhood.
Officers rushed to the scene and quickly restored order. Vadodara Deputy Commissioner of Police Andrew Macwan told , “We acted fast to control the situation. We’ve detained 50 people, and our team is investigating thoroughly to take the right steps.” More details on the Vadodara stone-pelting incident are still emerging.
This isn’t the first such clash in recent weeks. Last week, on September 8, a similar stone-pelting episode unfolded in Maddur town, Karnataka, during a Ganpati procession. The procession passed near a mosque, leading to protests and stones being thrown. Police arrested 21 suspects and used a mild lathi-charge to break up the crowd.
A pro-Hindu group later staged a protest against the Karnataka stone-pelting incident. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the chaos, explaining that organizers had warned the procession not to linger in the area. “When it passed the mosque, a small clash broke out, and some stone-pelting happened,” he said. “We carried out a mild lathi-charge to disperse groups causing trouble.”
The CM promised strict legal action against anyone guilty in the Maddur Ganpati procession violence. He also pointed fingers at the BJP, accusing party leaders of stirring up provocation. “The police did nothing wrong—if there was any mistake, we’ll handle it,” Siddaramaiah added.
