Indian golfer Rahil Gangjee shone on a rainy opening day at the Jakarta International Championship, grabbing the top spot among his compatriots. The 47-year-old veteran, a two-time Asian Tour winner, fired a flawless four-under 66 at the Damai Indah Golf PIK Course in Indonesia. He nailed birdies on holes 9, 13, 14, and 16, sitting just three strokes behind the early leader.
Gaganjeet Bhullar matched Gangjee’s score but had to pause after 16 holes due to fading light. The Olympian kicked things off strong with an eagle on the 545-yard par-five first hole. He added two more birdies early to go four under through four holes, picked up another on 11, but dropped a shot on the par-three 15th before play stopped.
Khalin Joshi and Viraj Madappa also impressed, both finishing at two under par in the clubhouse.
Thailand’s Suteepat Prateeptienchai stole the show, blazing through with a stunning seven-under 63 to take the lead. Australia’s Wade Ormsby, Mexico’s Roberto Lebrija, and Chinese Taipei’s Chang Wei-lun trail close behind at six under after 64s.
Morning rain in Jakarta halted play for over an hour, forcing 45 players to wrap up their first rounds Friday morning before round two begins. This Asian Tour event marks the fifth of nine key tournaments that feed into the LIV Golf League through season-long rankings battles.
