Massive Landslide Hits Haridwar’s Mansa Devi Hill, Halts Train Services on Dehradun-Haridwar Route
A huge chunk of the Mansa Devi hill in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar came crashing down on Monday, sparking a major landslide that blocked the busy railway track near the Bhimgoda tunnel and Kali Mata temple. This sudden collapse sent tons of soil and rocks tumbling down, completely covering the tracks and stopping all train movement on the popular Dehradun-Haridwar route.
The landslide struck right next to the Kali temple, with debris flying at high speed. It even wrecked the iron safety net put up to protect the railway line. Trains ground to a halt immediately, creating big chaos in the area. Local officials jumped into action fast, starting cleanup work to clear the mess and get things back on track.
This isn’t the first time such a disaster has hit this spot. Just under a month ago, on August 5, another big landslide rocked the same religious area. Back then, a massive hill section broke off and slammed into the Har Ki Pauri–Bhimgoda road and nearby railway tracks. Shocking CCTV footage captured rocks smashing into a motorcycle, but three men riding it escaped with only minor injuries—talk about a close call!
Heavy rains during the monsoon season often trigger these landslides in the Mansa Devi hill area, which experts call highly vulnerable. Even though authorities installed steel guards and protective nets in 2024 to shield key roads and rail lines from Uttarakhand landslides, the risks haven’t gone away. Torrential downpours keep destabilizing the hills, making the whole region prone to these scary events.
Uttarakhand is still battling non-stop rainfall that’s causing widespread havoc across the Himalayan state. The heavy rains have led to major disasters, with rising river levels and more landslide threats looming in hilly areas. Life has turned upside down for people in both mountains and plains, as floods and disruptions throw daily routines into disarray. Stay safe, folks—monsoon woes in Uttarakhand aren’t over yet!
