Indian Badminton Stars Shine in China Masters 2025: Satwik-Chirag Storm into Semis, Sindhu Faces Tough Loss
In a thrilling display at the Li-Ning China Masters 2025, Indian badminton sensation Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty dominated their quarterfinal match to reach the semifinals. The duo crushed China’s Ren Xiang Yu and Xie Haonan 21-14, 21-14 in just 38 minutes, as per the Badminton Association of India (BAI) update.
This straight-games win keeps the Indian men’s doubles pair on a roll. They’re chasing their first title of 2025 after a strong run last week at the Hong Kong Open, where they made their first final but fell to China’s Olympic silver medalists Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang. Before that, Satwik and Chirag grabbed a bronze at the World Championships in Paris, proving they’re top contenders in badminton doubles.
On the women’s side, PV Sindhu’s tough battle against Olympic champion An Se-young continued with another defeat. The Korean world No. 1, who won gold at Paris 2024, beat Sindhu 21-14, 21-13 in the women’s singles quarterfinals at Shenzhen Arena—also in 38 minutes. This loss at the BWF Super 750 tournament marks Sindhu’s eighth straight defeat to An Se-young, and the Indian star still hasn’t notched a win against her rival.
Sindhu, a Rio 2016 silver medalist and Tokyo 2020 bronze winner, had fought her way to the quarterfinals earlier. She took down Thailand’s World No. 6 Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-15, 21-15 in the Round of 16, wrapping it up in 41 minutes.
Indian badminton fans are buzzing with excitement over Satwik and Chirag’s form, while hoping Sindhu bounces back strong in upcoming BWF tournaments. Stay tuned for more updates from the China Masters 2025!
