Goa nightclub fire: Delhi court to hear Luthra brothers’ bail plea tomorrow, seeks police response

On Thursday, a Delhi court will examine an anticipatory bail application filed by Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, the brothers who run a nightclub in Goa that tragically burned to the ground, killing 25 people. The pair have asked for a four‑week period of bail in the Rohini Court, while police from Goa are also being called upon to respond to their request.
The Luthra brothers explained that they want the ability to return to India and continue the legal process in Goa. “It’s true that people died,” they said, adding, “We seek 4 weeks of anticipatory bail. We want to return to India and approach the court. How can the State Council oppose this, when we want to come and participate in the legal process ourselves?”
They also noted that they “only have a license; the owner is someone else. I cannot even carry out repairs without their permission. The bar is actually the owner’s property; I was only operating it on lease,” their bail petition read.
An INTERPOL notice classified as a blue‑corner alert has been issued for both Luthras as authorities continue to track their whereabouts. Investigations suggest that the brothers fled to Phuket, Thailand, allegedly within five hours of the fatal fire, boarding an IndiGo flight around 5.30 a.m. on Sunday in an attempt to avoid arrest. A Look‑Out Circular was issued later that evening after the brothers had already departed for Thailand.
The club’s fire, which erupted at roughly midnight on Sunday, claimed 25 lives—four tourists and 14 staff members. Police report that the venue’s narrow entry and exit points, located near the Arpora River’s backwaters, contributed to the difficulty many victims faced in escaping the blaze. The club is situated in the busy Baga area, a hotspot drawing large crowds due to its proximity to one of Goa’s popular beaches.
