Pakistan: Court again issues non-bailable arrest warrant for Imran Khan’s sister
Islamabad, Oct 22 – A Rawalpindi anti‑terrorism court issued a fourth non‑bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The court acted after she ignored several summons related to the party’s November 26 protest in Islamabad.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah ordered the forfeiture of Aleema Khan’s ₱100,000 surety bond and sent a showcause letter to her guarantor, Umar Sharif, demanding a reply by Oct 24. He also asked the woman to provide two new surety bonds of ₱1 million each. The judge questioned how she could hide while still speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, and adjourned the case to Oct 24.
The protest began on Nov 26 when PTI supporters broke a ban on public gatherings and clashed with police near D‑Chowk in Islamabad. Teal‑gas was used to disperse the crowd. The three‑day rally aimed to pressure the government to release Imran Khan, who has been in prison since August 2023 on corruption and terrorism charges.
PTI slammed the FIR against Aleema Khan as a “shocking abuse of law.” Party officials say the case, originally filed under sections 506, 147, 149, 382 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code, was later twisted to include terrorism clauses. They claim the police and provincial government have become tools of political revenge, targeting Khan’s family.
The party calls Aleema Khan a “dignified and courageous woman” and promises to stand by her.
