In a recent opinion poll, more than six in ten voters said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity could shape the outcome of the Bihar Assembly elections. The survey, carried out from October 10 to November 3 with a sample of 73,287 people, found that 63 % of respondents see Modi’s influence as a major factor as the state heads to the polls on November 6 and 11.
Only a small slice—9 %—of voters were unsure how Modi’s standing would affect the vote, while 8 % believe he will have some impact. A further 19 % said his popularity would not matter at all. The poll’s margin of error is 3 %.
When it comes to local leadership, the majority of voters expressed a preference for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to stay on the job. About 46 % of respondents named Kumar as their first choice for Bihar’s chief minister, whereas 15 % backed Tejashwi Yadav of the Janata Dal (United). Satisfaction with the current government is high: 44 % of voters say they’re “very satisfied” with Kumar’s performance, and another 38 % are simply “satisfied.”
The election will be held in two phases, covering 121 seats in the first round and 122 in the second. Bihar’s 243‑member assembly expires on November 22, 2025, and the race will feature 2,616 candidates. With 7.43 million registered voters—3.92 million men and 3.5 million women—the ballots will open across 90,712 polling booths.
As voters head to the polls, the weight of Narendra Modi’s influence and the local support for leaders like Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav will likely decide how the Bihar Assembly shapes its political future.
