A drone strike from Yemen hit near a hotel in the Israeli resort city of Eilat on September 25, injuring more than 20 people with flying shrapnel, according to Israel’s Ministry of Health. Emergency teams rushed a severely wounded 70-year-old man and other civilians to Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva for urgent care.
This attack comes just days after another Houthi drone crashed into a hotel in a nearby Red Sea resort. Medics say two men—one in his 60s and another 26 years old—remain in serious condition. A 30-year-old suffered moderate injuries, while 19 others have light wounds.
Helicopters airlifted the most critically hurt victims to Soroka Medical Centre in Beersheba. The rest received treatment at Eilat’s Yoseftal Medical Centre.
Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz condemned the Houthi drone attack, saying, “I wish a speedy recovery to all those injured. The Houthi terrorists refuse to learn from Iran, Lebanon, and Gaza, and they will learn the hard way. Those who harm Israel will be harmed sevenfold.”
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) now probes why air defenses failed to stop the Yemen-launched UAV during the Eilat drone strike. Since the IDF’s latest offensive against Hamas in Gaza began, attackers have fired nearly 90 missiles and over 40 drones at Israel.
German Ambassador to Israel Steffen Seibert also weighed in after the incident. “I wish all the injured a full recovery,” he said. “We must never get used to the fact that the Houthis are trying to kill Israeli citizens just because they say they are acting for the people of Gaza. They are obviously not helping them.”
