Three 17‑year‑old students drowned while swimming on Mypadu beach in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, police said on Sunday. The youngsters, members of a local college’s Intermediate class (12th grade), entered the water even after beachgoers warned them of strong currents. The waves, still rough after last week’s Cyclone Montha, swept them away before fishermen could reach them. The bodies were recovered and taken to the Government Hospital for post‑mortem examination.
The victims were identified as Pathan Humayun, Sameed, and Mohammad Tazeem. All three were from nearby Nellore city.
In a separate tragedy on the outskirts of Hyderabad, a speeding car in Bibinagar struck a parked two‑wheeler, killing the rider’s wife and sending the rider into a nearby pond. The driver of the car, 20‑year‑old Shamukha, and two friends, 18‑year‑old Bhargava and Sairitu, suffered serious injuries and were taken to the Bhongir government hospital for treatment.
Police say the vehicle was driven recklessly while the couple was en route to Warangal. The incident has prompted an investigation and a formal case filing.
