Trinamool leader warns of ‘bloodbath’ if valid voters’ names are deleted during SIR exercise

Kolkata, Nov 18 – A video that has spread quickly on social media shows a Trinamool Congress (TMC) member saying that crimes will follow if the Election Commission removes any valid voter names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal’s electoral rolls.
The clip was recorded on Monday in Supur village, Bolpur, in Birbhum district. TMC MLA Chandranath Sinha was also in the room, but he did not answer the pointed remarks.
In the video, local TMC leader Babu Das says, “The voter list is being revised, and that is fine. But if even one real voter’s name is deleted, there will be consequences. If the Chief Minister orders it, I’ll bury them in the crematorium. The Ajay River is nearby – I’ll make BJP agents float in that river.”
The TMC chairman did not reply.
The BJP responded by accusing the TMC of threatening the party’s workers and the Election Commission. Shyamapada Mandal, the BJP’s Bolpur district president, said the BJP would not stand by while the TMC politicizes the SIR process. He added that BJP sees no role in the Commission’s work and criticized the TMC for “threatening violence.”
This is not the first time TMC leaders have warned the BJP and the Election Commission about the SIR. Earlier, TMC’s national secretary Abhishek Banerjee vowed to stage a protest of 100,000 people if voter names were removed.
has not verified the video’s authenticity. The incident highlights growing tensions around the electoral roll revision in West Bengal, a key issue ahead of the upcoming state elections.
